Knollwood Nursing Center Receives “Deficiency Free” Rating by Health Department
Worcester, MA, June 18, 2009- Knollwood Nursing Center, of Worcester, MA recently received a deficiency free survey from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Division of Health Care Quality. To receive such a rating, nursing homes are evaluated on a combination of health inspection requirements, the quality of the nursing home staff, and performance quality measures.
To meet health inspection requirements, Knollwood Nursing Center was expected to comply with over 180 regulatory standards designed to protect their nursing home residents. These standards covered a wide array of topics, from proper management of medications, protecting residents from physical or mental abuse and inadequate care, to the safe storage and preparation of food. In addition, we provide our staffing hours to the DPH surveyors to ensure that we are meeting their required staffing standards which we exceed. Lastly, the evaluation covered quality measures including information about the residents' health, physical functioning, mental status, and general well being.
The inspection was carried out by a team of trained health department professionals, including at least one registered nurse and a social worker. The complete evaluation included a tour of the facility, review of residents’ clinical records, interviews with residents and family members about life and care at Knollwood, and interviews with caregivers and staff.
Excelling in meeting all requirements, Knollwood Nursing Center received the deficiency free survey. With this, the nursing center received certification in the Medicare and Medicaid Programs. Knollwood Nursing Center continues to provide excellent care for their residents, and hopes to achieve another five star rating next year.
